Kanon Ito – 2024

Kanon Ito – 2024

Since receiving the Theme and Variation Foundations Grant in 2024, my musical journey has undergone so many new and exciting experiences that I’m incredibly grateful for.

Performing alongside Alexander Gavrylyuk for the premiere of David Paterson’s Variations on a Ukrainian Theme was definitely one of the most nerve wracking concerts, but nonetheless it really allowed me to gain more perspective on the performance experience.

Last year, the grant also helped me travel to Switzerland as a semi-finalist in the Gianni Bergamo Classic Music Award. I was so enlightened by the musicians from all over the world, and having the opportunity to hear the way other pianists perform was so beneficial for my own learning.

Most recently, I was given the opportunity to appear as guest principal musician with the Omega Ensemble, workshopping a new premiere by Paul Stanhope. Working with these fellow musicians at a professional standard really inspired and motivated my own musical journey, and I hope to work with them again in the future!

Later this year, l’ll be heading to Disentis, Switzerland for the International Summer Piano Academy, supported by the Sydney Conservatorium Henderson Travellers Scholarship. I’m really looking forward to meeting people from different backgrounds who share the same love for music that I do. After the program, I’m hoping to also watch the Verbier Festival concerts with my other peers, which will be very exciting!
